This year’s theme is “Planting Community Roots.”

Atlantic Broadband's Tree Planting  Responsibilities

Pre-Event

Tree Sourcing

Atlantic Broadband is partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation to ensure the trees planted are compatible with the existing plant life and right for the school's hardiness zone. Arbor Day Foundation will work with local nurseries to select responsibly sourced trees for Atlantic Broadband's tree planting event.

811 Dig Safe

Prior to planting the tree. Atlantic Broadband will call the local 811 Call Before You Dig Safety Line to schedule a site survey to locate power and/or sewer lines and determine a safe place to plant the trees.

Day Of Event

Tree Planting and Clean Up

Atlantic Broadband will recruit volunteers to plant up to three trees at each participating school location. Our volunteers will make sure:

     -  All trees are secured

     -  The school grounds are cleaned and free of debris

     -  Frequently touched surfaces are sanitized regularly

COVID-19 Safety Measures

Atlantic Broadband cares about the health of their employees and people in  the communities they serve. To help ensure everyone's safety, we will follow the COVID-19 safety ordinances mandated by the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Post Event

Follow Up Care and Maintenance

Atlantic Broadband will provide each participating school with care instructions and other information about your new tree. Atlantic Broadband agrees to visit the school at least twice within the first month of the tree planting to provide general maintenance care.

Annual Check In's

Atlantic Broadband will scheduled at least one in-person visit to the school to observe the trees' growth and to share the positive environmental impact the trees have made since being planted.

Your school can be among the first in the world to earn recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation through the new Tree Campus K-12 program which inspires the next generation of tree stewards through experiences that bring benefits of trees to both inside and outside the classroom. Caring for the trees planted by Atlantic Broadband will bring your school one step closer to earning special recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation.

How Does Tree Campus K-12 Work?

01

Establish a Tree Campus Team

Establish a Tree Campus Team and meet regularly. This team should include diverse representation from students, staff, and school leadership. It may also  include other interested community members, school organizations, or another school organization.

02

Implement Educational Plan

Implement an fun, flexible, education plan outlining tree-related learning experiences provided to students throughout the school year. The goal of establishing this plan is to provide a roadmap and guidance for the educators, staff, or community partners who may help facilitate these experiences.

03

Hands On Experience

The Hands-On Experience includes providing students with an opportunity to plant, nurture, or celebrate trees in the community. The goal is to demonstrate the importance of trees in the community through experience. Caring for the trees planted by Atlantic Broadband will get you one step closer to earning recognition from Arbor Day Foundation!

04

Celebrate Arbor Day!

An Arbor Day observance provides a golden opportunity to educate the school community on the benefits of the trees on their campus and in the community. The Arbor Day observance can be held on the school grounds or in conjunction with another local organization such as a municipal tree program or a local tree-focused nonprofit group.
